This Dutch Town Has Canals Instead of Streetsand It's Absolutely Lovely http://ift.tt/2dDmbL7

Giethoorn

It may look like the setting for a book about a duckling engaging in lighthearted adventures rendered in delicate watercolor illustrations, but the village of Giethoorn isn’t fictional. Instead of traditional roads, the small Dutch town is connected by a series of picturesque canals. The remote neighborhood, dubbed the Venice of the North, is so dependent on its waterways even the mail is delivered by a punt (picture a flat gondola). While tourism hasn’t really touched the storybook-worthy town, there are some bed and breakfasts for lodging—making it the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway.
